- Notes:
As to number one:
This expression is a formal greeting used in addressing a superior, or in any situation requiring formality. When speaking to equals or inferiors, gozaimasu may be omitted.
As to number four:
This expression which literally means "For the first time" (to see you) corresponds to "How do you do?" or "I'm glad to meet you" in English.
As to number five:
This expression literally means "Please be good to me (from now on)" or "How do you do?". It is similar to "Hajimemashite", which sounds a little formal. The two expressions are sometimes used together.
